The Memory Tree
As a firm we believe that supporting charitable causes is vitally important. It’s foundational to the vision of our firm and to the counsel that we provide to our clients. We do this in many ways. We have our own charitable foundation – The Paradigm Norton Trust, but equally the team from time to time, take it upon themselves to support specific causes.
Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s Society
There are many forms of dementia and for some it is a less difficult condition to live with than others. The charity is very close to Alison’s heart as her father had Alzheimer’s for around seventeen years and died last summer. Five of her mother’s friends are now suffering from this disease.
Alzheimer’s is not treated as an illness by the NHS until the very late stages of the disease, so most of the costs of caring for those with Alzheimer’s fall on their families and carers. Dementia research in the UK has historically been low priority and been desperately underfunded, with the UK government investing eight times less in dementia research than cancer research. The advice, respite care and support provided by the Alzheimer’s Society are vital and funding is very much needed. This is why we decided to raise money for this vital cause.
The 10km walk was undertaken by Polly, Alison and friends. The event was extremely well planned by the Alzheimer’s Society. There were various stalls selling badges, pens and cakes to raise more much needed funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. A lovely memory tree stood in the centre. The memory tree was there for people to write memory tags and hang them up to remember those who had passed and recall those for whom the walk was been undertaken. There was also lots of information and people sharing information on the illness.
Thank you to everyone who sponsored us, as a team we raised over £500 for the Alzheimer’s Society. If you would still like to donate more to this amazing charity you can do so on Alison’s Just Giving page
